A contact lens is a medical device that touches the surface of the eye, and as such impacts upon the health of the eye (and the patient). Proper assessment as to lens type and design, as well as patient care must be taken to ensure succesful wear.
Some things to keep in mind when considering contact lenses:
A comprehensive eye exam is required within 1 year of the contact lens fitting to ensure good eye health. Your doctor must certify that there are no contra-indications for CL wear.
At your CL fitting you will be further examined to determine if you are a CL candidate. This assessment includes corneal curvature measurements, Rx interpretation and modification, and fitting with diagnostic lenses. Your fitter will present your CL options and make his/her recommendation.
If you decide to proceed with CL wear, followup visits are needed for instruction in insertion, removal and care for your contact lenses. Followups also allow the fitter to monitor the health of your eyes.
Contact lens fittings and contact lenses are generally NOT covered by insurances. During your initial visit your fitter will provide you with the costss involved in your lenses and upkeep. There is no cost for the initial consultation.
Our four offices offer contact lens fitting, with evening and weekend appointments available. You may supply an Rx from your own eye doctor, or one of our Optometrists can do the exam for you.
