"Eye Can See Clearly Now"

Understanding how the eye functions to create the miracle of sight can help us understand vision problems and how to correct them.

Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism are the three most common vision disorders:

  • Nearsightedness or myopia means objects are seen clearly close up, but are blurry at a distance. Correcting lenses are thin in the center, thick on the edges and make the image smaller.
  • Farsightedness or hyperopia means objects are seen clearly far away but are blurry close up. Correcting lenses are thick-centered, thin on the edges and make the image larger.
  • Astigmatism affects vision at all distances. From the Greek word meaning "without a point", it is usually caused when the cornea is shaped irregularly making light bend differently depending upon the angle of the light when it hits the eye. Lens thickness is determined by the axis of the correction. An astigmatic (or cylindrical) lens will cause the image to "wobble" as it is rotated.

A thorough vision examination will determine exactly which treatment will help you see your best.
